Recently we came across a child taking Maths tuition in Delhi who has been taking Maths tuitions since the first grade. She has changed tutors every 6 months and her marks have not improved. She has now reached a point where she hates Maths and will do anything possible to avoid it. A brief conversation showed that she is an intelligent child with quick grasping abilities. She could quickly relate to basic Maths concepts. Unfortunately, not one of her teachers or tutors were able to interest her in the subject and give her enough encouragement. This is more common than we think.
The present school system is increasingly focusing on the all-round development of a child. While this is an excellent direction, it also means that there is a shift away from curricular work. This has resulted in the further importance of tuition classes specially in subjects such as Maths.
In addition, many teachers feel like the increased amount of technology in schools is causing students to not learn the fundamental interaction skills they need. The less face time students get, the less they learn to work with other people in a professional setting. Kids get so used to things being fast and brief; they are not being prepared for things like interviews. The verbal skills and conversational skills that are lost in this technological age can be very bad for students.
4. Connect with the teaching environment. If you are in regular touch with the teachers in school as well as the tuition teacher, you will achieve two things. The first is that your child will be noticed and hence given some additional attention in class. The second is that you will be aware of any changes that happen in performance very early.
Students who are disconnected from the professor and from their fellow students are more likely to skip class, be disengaged when they are in class, and give lower evaluations at the end of class. They are less likely to learn and to contribute while in the classroom. Given this, it is worth spending 20” at the beginning of a new semester to have students up and moving about to begin to learn about their classmates and to also have the sense that interaction and engagement is to be expected in your course.
