2. They allow practiced mistakes to happen and don’t take time to fix them. While #1 was a little tongue-in-cheek, I am very serious about this one. Teachers seem to have forgotten the information about how many correct repetitions it takes to learn a fact (20 – 50 correct repetitions) and how many correct repetitions it takes to fix a mistake that has been practiced. Hundreds! Yes, I am serious!
Another downside to technology is the issues it can cause with a school. Instituting laptop plans and things have their pros but also a lot of cons. If the internet is not working for example, the entire school basically shuts down. Class plans have to be changed and homework might not be able to be turned in if something is working properly. When assignments are written on paper and handed in manually, there are much fewer reasons for students to not turn it in on time. Whereas, if something is meant to be turned in online, if the website is not working or the student’s computer is having issues, a teacher has to extend due dates for multiple people.
It is essential that you help your child learn algebra at a very young age. This will turn out to be rewarding for you as well as your child. However, as a tutor you need to keep a couple of things in mind while helping your child to learn pre-algebraic concepts. For instance, it is important that you first master it yourself. Once you are completely content with your own knowledge, only then start teaching your child. This will assist your child in mastering the concepts.
Recently we came across a child taking Maths tuition in Delhi who has been taking Maths tuitions since the first grade. She has changed tutors every 6 months and her marks have not improved. She has now reached a point where she hates Maths and will do anything possible to avoid it. A brief conversation showed that she is an intelligent child with quick grasping abilities. She could quickly relate to basic Maths concepts. Unfortunately, not one of her teachers or tutors were able to interest her in the subject and give her enough encouragement. This is more common than we think.
5. Provide a disciplined learning environment at home. Ensure that certain times are strictly adhered to. Once a child gets used to a study routine, their overall stress reduces and regular study enhances their marks.
